A 25-year-old IT professional, Rajni Mahato, died in a road accident at Webel Crossing in Salt Lake Sector V. She was a resident of Dhapa Mathpukur and worked in the Sector V IT hub. The incident occurred when a Santragachi-Barasat route bus, heading towards Webel More, rammed into another vehicle from behind.
During the impact, Rajni reportedly fell onto the road. The rear wheel of the same bus ran over her head, causing fatal injuries. She was rushed to Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital in a critically injured condition but was declared dead on arrival by doctors.
The accident led to brief traffic disruption in the area during peak hours. Police have started an investigation and are working to trace the bus and identify the driver. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being reviewed to determine the sequence of events and establish responsibility.
